My squarespace site was up for renewal at the end of the month. I got 20% off for new users last year from a photography youtuber being sponsored by squarespace.
Now that I have to pay the full annual price of $195/year (their cheapest plan) from now on, I was quick to move to somewhere cheaper.
I’m now on Bluehost + WordPress. A lot cheaper. For the three-year plan, I paid $107. Transferring my domain from squarespace to bluehost cost $13.
Squarespace is a lot easier to build your site with their templates but I couldn’t justify paying that much every year.
There’s a little bit more effort to building on WordPress but that allows you more control of the look of your site in the long term.
Plus there were some features that were unavailable on squarespace that were available on wordpress through their free plug-ins that I wanted to incorporate into the blog posts.
Moving to different website providers does feel like moving to a new apartment. If you’re reading this, the site looks empty, the furniture has yet to arrive, new paint needs to be applied. I’m sleeping in a sleeping bag, pillow on the hardwood floor with a laptop watching movies on TUBI.
I’m going to try my best to write more and cover a broad range of topics of interest. With every post I want to improve the site just a little bit more.
